Focus Solutions’ Implementation Consultant, Raj Nayyar, sits down with The Modern Adviser to talk about the nuances of his role, what working at Focus is like, and why he has set up an Instagram channel dedicated to chicken wings…

How long have you worked for Focus?

I have been at Focus for close to 18 months now which seems to have flown by!

What did you do before Focus?

I graduated with a BSc in IT Management for Business. Then started on a graduate scheme as a TestAnalyst. I left where I was as an Implementation Consultant then moved to another company as a Business Consultant.

What made you follow this particular career path?

Working as a Test Analyst I quickly realised I enjoyed being in front of our clients. The role of Implementation Consultant allowed me to remain technical but also be a lot more client facing, I’ve been doing this for over four years now and enjoying it!

What does your day-to-day job entail?

Every day is a new challenge, no two implementations are ever the same. Every morning I’ll check emails and begin working on my task list, we have to manage more than one client implementation at a time and they’re usually at different stages in the implementation journey. This can be difficult to manage however I enjoy the challenge. The job spans from the initial meeting to understand the client’s requirements through to data migration and then floor walking with the client when they finally go live.

Favourite thing about working for Focus…

The people I work with, no matter hard the day may have been we always find time to have a laugh!

Outside of work, how do you relax and like to spend your free time?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family, attempting to play golf and eating chicken wings!

Interesting fact about you?

My love for chicken wings lead me and my friends to have a dedicated Instagram page purely for the love of chicken wings (@allidoiswings).

You’re stranded on a desert island; what three things would you want with you?

A bucket of wings, my phone, a boat!
