The people behind Focus Solutions.
Inthe first instalment of our new interviews series, which explores the real people behind Focus Solutions (the digital software provider for modern IFAs, wealth managers, private banks, high street banks and major advice distributors), we speak to their Senior Marketing Executive, Sara Russell, about life at HQ, the flexibility of Focus, amateur dramatics and why Ed Stafford would make the ideal desert island companion…
How long have you worked for Focus?
I’ve been here just over 17 months now but it feels like I’ve been here longer — in a good way.
What did you do before Focus?
Just before I worked for Focus I was a self-employed freelance marketing consultant and events planner. Prior to that I was a Marketing and PR Manager for an independent media company, working on magazines, sporting events, country fairs and music shows.
What made you get into marketing and PR?
When I graduated at University with a degree in Multimedia Journalism I knew news reporting wasn’t for me but I had a knack for writing copy and still wanted to be involved with the media.
What does your day-to-day role entail?
It’s a mixed bag! Lots of social media, copywriting, talking to people, learning new things and laughing!
Favourite thing about working at Focus?
They’re flexible and are really working on ways to improve the culture and work-life balance which is exciting to me.
I also laugh pretty much every day thanks to the people I work with and near. Plus, I’m always busy, no one has nothing to do around here.
Outside of work, how do you relax and like to spend your free time?
Spending time with my family and my friends, I also do some amateur theatre so that keeps me busy too.
Interesting fact about you?
I have Persian heritage and one of my ancestors was “the King” of Persia.
You’re stranded on a desert island; what three things would you want with you?
Ed Stafford would be pretty useful I guess, I’d leave all the shelter building, food gathering and fire-starting to him. I’d probably just want to work on my tan so some decent lotion and maybe a satellite phone…
